Tech Talks for Beginners - workshop - Leeds

Leeds, United Kingdom

Outcomes In this 1-day workshop, you will learn how to develop and deliver a tech talk based on the work you've been doing recently. We help you develop a talk from nothing through to draft slides, giving you confidence to submit talks to meetup groups and tech conferences. Your glittering career in technology public speaking (or just the occasional talk at a meetup group) starts here! Is this for me? If your work is related to designing, building or running some kind of software, and you want to get started with speaking, this workshop is for you. Details Based on the work you have been doing recently, we uncover some interesting material that you could talk about. We then refine the focus and establish a basic narrative structure for the talk, before beginning to create a draft set of slides. The workshop ends with talk showcases from each of the attendees. 09:30 - introductions and overview 10:00 - material discovery 11:00 - narrative development 12:30 - lunch 13:30 - create draft slides 15:00 - talk showcases 16:30 - close The workshop is collaborative and interactive - please expect to share experience and work with others in the group. Your talk will be better for it! Food & drink We provide tea/coffee and a light lunch (sandwiches & fruit). What to bring Please bring your own laptop for slides (or pad of A4 paper if you prefer), and some details of things you have recently worked on.

GEWINN 1. Fachtag / 1. symposium

Berlin, Germany

The first symposium of the GEWINN project is dedicated to "Agile Software Development". The event will take place on 21st November 2017 in Berlin from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Agile methods are one of the important recent developments in software engineering. From a gender perspective, the values, principles, roles, practices, and artefacts of agile software development hold great potential to promote gender fairness and equality. But the adoption of agile software development can also jeopardize gender fairness: * The roles in agile methods might unintentionally promote gender stereotypes. * The group empowerment that is central to agile methods might backfire when team diversity is low. * Approaches that have been shown to be successful to consider the wide spectrum of target groups from diverse walks of life might be neglected. The symposium aims at ensuring that the chances of agile software development for a gender-fair working environment can take effect. Researchers and practitioners will meet in order to learn from each other in a participatory exchange of knowledge. We focus on the practical transfer of gender knowledge to computer science and IT companies. At the same time, gender researchers can gain insight into the everyday life of agile software development in the corporate world. You can count on exciting lectures and expert talks on the subject area "Agile". Our workshop sessions offer a chance to discuss the topics with experts in small groups.
