beyond tellerrand // BERLIN 2018

Berlin, Germany

[beyond tellerrand](https://beyondtellerrand.com) is an independent design and development event established in 2010 and organised by Marc Thiele. Two days with talks about design, technology, development and much more. Plus full-day workshops and (mostly) free Side Events around those dates. Networking is written in big letters as well. beyond tellerrand, the name of my event, is a mix of the English word “beyond” and the German word “Tellerrand”, which is the edge of a plate. In Germany you say “Über den Tellerrand schauen” which translates to “Look over the edge of your plate”, meaning something like “Think outside the box”. That describes the aim of mixing different topics to have (force!) people to not only look at their day by day stuff, but also look left and right. It also is shown in the mix of topics at the event, where quite a lot is about web related stuff (mostly front end or “web design”), but spiced with a lot of interesting and inspiring other stuff too. ## Line-Up for Berlin 2018: - Andy Budd - Josh Clark - Chen Hui Jing - Debbie Millman - Gemma O'Brien - David Ross - Oliver Schöndorfer - Jenny Shen - Frederik Vanhoutte - Leonie Watson - Marcin Wichary - … more TBA

php[world] 2018

Washington, D.C., Virginia, United States

We are excited to announce our 4th year for php[world], the annual conference for PHP developers, with special emphasis on WordPress & Drupal development as well! PHP as a language and a community has been rapidly changing in the last few years. A staggering 83% of the Web runs on PHP, and those websites are built on frameworks such as Drupal, WordPress, Magento, Symfony, ZF and Laravel, each of which has their own strong community. We created a conference designed to appeal to all these communities and bring them together. Hence, php[world] was born. An event intended to bring the entire world of PHP together in one place, to encourage cross-pollination of ideas and sharing of ideals.

New Adventures

Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom

Established for those who value design, New Adventures began as a trilogy of events between 2011–2013, welcoming 650 attendees from across the globe. We're back for 2019 and beyond, as it’s time to explore an uncertain future, together. Tools, frameworks, automation: what value do they offer, and how will they alter the way digital experiences form? Will you be essential or expendable? Did design sleep in while everyone else got busy defining a new rulebook for our industry? We'll talk about designing smarter. We'll consider labour and ethics, education and inclusivity, the disappearance of weirdness and fun. We'll reconvene, recalibrate, and re-energise digital design. Our speakers include Ethan Marcotte, Jeremy Keith, Clare Sutcliffe MBE, Naz Hamid, Helen Joy, and Jessica White, and we have fringe events across three days in the city.

Accessibility Club Conference 2018

Berlin, Germany

While the necessity and benefits of accessible services on the web are pretty obvious, web accessibility is still not a widespread practice. Common reasonsings range from putative additional efforts, tight budgets to the misbelief that "validity equals accessibilty". In many cases, however, it seems that the majority of developers simply has no clue where to start — which comes as no surprise as most of them have never gotten their hands on assistive technology. ___ The **[Accessibility Club](https://accessibility-club.org)** started out as a tiny meetup back in 2014. The "concept" was more than simple: Take a bunch of webworkers, lock them into one room with a blind person and his screenreader and [see what happens](https://flic.kr/s/aHsjZafYk4). It was instantly clear that there are tons of things the webworkers could and should learn — and the a11yclub became their conversational starting point. In 2016, the Club [went to Berlin](https://flic.kr/s/aHskNj1H7c) for the first time, attracted more than 30 attendees and 2 international presenters. The format shifted towards a mixture of presentations and barcamp style sessions. When in 2017 [Heydon Pickering](http://www.heydonworks.com/), [Laura Kalbag](https://laurakalbag.com/) and [Detlev Fischer](http://www.3needs.org/en/) joined in, a whopping [70 attendees clearly demonstrated](https://flic.kr/s/aHskriq2DU) that awareness has grown and the topic deserves a bigger stage. Other guests presenters so far include [Marco Zehe](https://www.marcozehe.de/), [Kerstin Probiesch](http://www.barrierefreie-informationskultur.de/), [Rodney Rehm](https://rodneyrehm.de/en/), [Marcy Sutton](https://marcysutton.com/) and [Robin Cristopherson](https://www.abilitynet.org.uk/robinchristopherson). ___ For 2018, [Stefan](https://www.stefanjudis.com/) and [Joschi](https://jkphl.is/), the two times Berlin organiser team, decided to take it even one step further: They're excited (and admittedly a bit nervous) to invite you to the first ever full-day **Accessibility Club Conference**, scheduled for **November 5th, 2018**. As with all the smaller gatherings before, the conference wants to give you the chance to get some real-world experience with assistive technology, deepen your knowledge about web accessibilty and get you in touch with like-minded webworkers. The goal is to enable you to make accessibility a natural part of your daily work and mindset. The event in run **not-for-profit**, anticipates **150-200 participants** and is the first internationally oriented conference in the German-speaking area that covers the topic of „web accessibility“. The [Spreespeicher](https://colloq.io/events/accessibility-club/2018/berlin/1/venues/spreespeicher) in Berlin serves as centrally located, well-connected and **structurally fully accessible venue**. Besides the four selected speakers * [Léonie Watson](https://tink.uk/) (The Paciello Group, W3C) * [Raúl Krauthausen](https://raul.de/) (Sozialhelden) * [Charlie Owen](https://sonniesedge.co.uk/) (Springer Nature) * [Alistair Duggin](http://alistairduggin.co.uk/) (Government Digital Service) 4-5 additional speakers will be picked through a public and anonymous [«Call For Papers»](https://colloq.io/events/accessibility-club/2018/berlin/1/callforpapers). Further topic proposals can be submitted here until July 15th. ## We need your help! In order to achieve our goals need your help: * If you think you can **contribute by giving a presentation**, please consider our [call for papers](https://colloq.io/events/accessibility-club/2018/berlin/1/callforpapers)! * If you think you or your employer can **support as a sponsor**, please [get in touch](mailto:hello@a11y-club.org). * In any case you can **help spreading the word** so that all potential attendees, contributors and sponsors take note of this conference. Thanks for your support! ❤️ Joschi & Stefan
